Our Culture and Process

Welcome to the Wedding Shoppe (WS) and Kennedy Blue (KB). We are excited to have you learn more about how our business operates. Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience to couples on their big day, and to create a fun and engaging work environment where everyone can learn and grow.

How We Work

To achieve this, we follow a management system called Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), which helps us become more efficient and focused. EOS consists of six core components: vision, people, data, issues, processes, and traction.

  1. Vision is the first component, and it refers to the long-term goal or purpose of our company. At WS and KB, our purpose is to create happy experiences for our customers, and our niche is to provide the right products for their biggest occasions. Our core values include adaptability, creating happiness, being extraordinary, and being self-motivated. It is essential for the entire organization to share a clear and compelling vision to align us around a common goal.

  2. People is the second component, and it focuses on three key areas: getting the right people in the right seats, creating an accountable and transparent culture, and investing in the development of our people.

  3. Data is the measurable information that we use to make decisions. Each team and person is responsible for a handful of key performance indicators (KPIs) critical to their success, which they track regularly. By focusing on the right data, we can make better decisions and stay on track to achieve our goals.

  4. Issues is the third component, where each team creates a list of challenges and obstacles called an "Issues List." This list includes all the issues that are preventing us from achieving our goals. By addressing these issues in a structured and proactive manner, we can overcome obstacles and continue to make progress.

  5. Processes is the fourth component, where we document the systems and procedures we use to operate. We have a "Process Accountability Chart" (PAC) that outlines the key processes in the company and assigns accountability for each one. By establishing clear processes and holding people accountable, we can improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  6. Traction is the fifth component, which refers to the discipline and focus that we need to achieve our goals. We have a "Meeting Pulse" that includes regular, structured meetings to review progress, identify and solve issues, and set priorities for the coming week or quarter. By maintaining a consistent meeting schedule and staying focused on the most important priorities, we can achieve traction and make steady progress toward our goals.

In summary, EOS provides a practical and actionable guide for us to improve our operations and achieve our goals. At WS and KB, we follow EOS with no exceptions, and we expect everyone to do the same. By focusing on the six core components of the EOS framework, we can clarify our vision, build a strong team, track our progress, overcome obstacles, improve efficiency, and achieve our goals.

How We Manage Meetings and Work

We have a structured approach to our weekly, quarterly, and annual meetings to review progress, address issues, and set priorities for the future. This helps us stay disciplined in solving important issues while providing our team with growth opportunities and room for innovation. A typical week at WS and KB looks like this:

L10 Meeting: Each department holds a 90-minute weekly meeting to focus on the business's progress towards its goals and to solve pressing issues. The agenda includes a review of the scorecard, previous week's commitments, update on rocks (90-day projects), discussion of pressing issues, and the creation of new action items for the upcoming week. The L10 meeting helps keep everyone accountable, aligned, and moving forward towards our goals.

Check-In Meetings: Team members meet at least once a week to discuss progress, coordinate tasks, and identify any potential obstacles or challenges. This meeting lasts no more than 60 minutes and involves a quick update from each team member, followed by any necessary discussion or clarification. The goal is to ensure everyone is informed and aligned, and to set the stage for a productive day.

Project Management: We use Asana to manage our projects and work, which helps us stay organized, track progress, and collaborate more effectively. Asana offers a variety of features, including task management, calendars, file sharing, and communication tools. By using Asana, we streamline our workflow, stay on top of deadlines, and prioritize tasks to deliver high-quality results for our clients.

Recognition: We recognize and celebrate the success of our employees on a weekly, quarterly, and annual basis. We believe in identifying and rewarding those who embody our core values of adaptability, creating happiness, being extraordinary, and self-motivated. We also recognize individuals who consistently do great work and contribute to increasing key performance indicators. Our employee recognition program is designed to motivate and encourage our team to continue to strive for excellence in everything they do.

Training and Development: We believe that ongoing learning and development is key to our success. We understand that to stay ahead in the fast-paced world of ecommerce and digital, we need employees who are not only talented, but also willing to continuously learn and adapt.

That's why we offer a range of training and development opportunities to all our employees. These include video, written, and live training sessions, covering a variety of topics such as leadership, communication, technical skills, and industry trends. We also encourage our employees to attend industry events and conferences to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and network with peers.

We believe that by investing in our employees' personal and professional growth, we create a more engaged and motivated workforce, which ultimately leads to better business results. At WS and KB, we are committed to fostering a culture of learning and development, where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our Scorecards and KPIs

We believe that tracking and managing KPIs is a critical part of achieving success. KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, are measurable values that help us understand how well we are performing against specific objectives. By tracking KPIs regularly, we can identify areas for improvement and take corrective action before problems arise.

Every person and team is responsible for tracking and improving KPIs. This means that you will have clear performance goals and expectations that are directly tied to the company's success. We use scorecards to track KPIs, and you will be expected to provide regular updates on your progress towards your goals.

While KPIs provide a clear benchmark for success, we also encourage employees to test and experiment with new strategies and approaches to achieve their goals. This allows us to be innovative and adapt quickly to changing market conditions. We believe that learning and continuous improvement are critical to success, and we offer a variety of training and development opportunities to help our employees grow and achieve their goals.
