Peau de Soie is also known as Duchess Satin. French for 'skin of silk,' Peau de Soie is a stout, soft silk with find cross ribs. A medium weight fabric with satiny finish, it looks like Charmeause, but Peau de Soie has a moderately stuff drape. Used in evening wear, bridal gowns, and elegant dresses, Peau de Soie sews easily, but often leaves pin and needle marks.
This is a traditional fabric for wedding dresses that is also used for bridesmaid gowns, mother-of-the-bride dresses, and elegant cocktail suits. The dull luster is more flattering to most body shapes and sizes than high-luster satins. Polyester delustered satin is more forgiving than silk satins. Polyester Peau de Soie doesn't water spot as easily.
