A form-fitting article of clothing which supports the breasts to create cleavage.

The primary purpose of the bustier and corset differ although the bustier evolved from the more restrictive corset. The purpose of a bustier is to create lift whereas the corset is meant to shape the body. The boning in a bustier is not strong enough to mold the body because it is constructed out of plastic versus a stronger material. However, a bustier typically provides gentle shaping to the waist area.

Bustiers, like corsets, can be worn as lingerie or as outerwear. Bustiers are generally strapless, but some feature removable straps. The present day bustier now fastens in front by laces, hooks and eyes, or zippers.
