After Six was started in 1903, as a tuxedo company. They were named "After Six," because formal attire is traditionally worn only after 6 o’clock in the evening. The company’s founder, Samuel Rudofker, made suits and overcoats out of his home in Philadelphia. Due to the high quality and durability of their formal attire, After Six is credited as being one of the most defining brands in the tuxedo industry; inventing the concept of tuxedo rentals, and bringing some of the most famous designers to the tuxedo industry, including Oscar de la Renta!
The After Six brand has been licensed for use by The Dessy Group for more than 15 years, and in March of 2011, Dessy fully acquired the After Six brand, its trademark and all intellectual property. This acquisition created a great combination of affordable bridesmaid dresses and Dessy’s famous palette of wedding colors.
The Dessy Group was founded in 1939 as “A & M Rosenthal,” by Margot Rosenthal, who made bridal veils and headpieces. In the 1950’s, Margot’s daughter, Ronnie and her husband, Andre, took over the family business, adding bridesmaid dresses to their products.
Today, the company is known as The Dessy Group, and continues to thrive under the direction of Alan Dessy and Dessy’s lead designer, Vivian Dessy Diamond. As they continue to progress, Dessy has added Dessy Flower Girl Dresses
