The wedding who, what, when, where, and why:
The “who” and the “why” are pretty much a given. Who?
Us. And why?
Because we love each other, and want to share our lives with one another. The “when” and the “where” have been tough questions for us to answer, but we've finally come to a decision! We've now set the wedding date and chosen the wedding venue!
Our Wedding Date:
Deciding on our wedding date was a tough decision, even though we're planning a year and a half out. We had our minds set on a date in June (we even had the church booked) but, like a bad pair of shoes, it just didn't feel right. My little sister will be graduating from high school the beginning of June and it felt like too much for one month. Even though my sister insisted we weren’t stealing her moment, and my mom promised it wouldn’t stress her out, it felt right for us to push it out another month. What’s one more month, right? This is the date that we will celebrate every year, and it’s exciting to know what our wedding anniversary will be!
There were a ton of ideas that we entertained when looking at wedding venues. Minneapolis has so much to offer in terms of beautiful wedding reception sites, how does one choose?! I knew I had to stay organized with all of the information we were going to receive, so instead of purchasing a pre-made wedding planning book, I made my own! A three-ring binder and page protectors did the trick. It was a great way for me to have all of my information in one place. I printed off the catering menus for each of the wedding venues we were interested in and made a section for each of them. In each section, I made notes of things I liked and didn't like. There is a lot of information to take in when reading through contracts and wedding menus, so this was a great way for me to narrow down what we were looking for and not interested in. Our situation was difficult in that distance prevented us from meeting with wedding coordinators in person, and much of our conversation was done via email. This gave me a good idea of who I wanted to work with. I knew I needed someone who would be available for questions in a timely matter, and someone I could trust with executive decisions. The wedding coordinator will have a huge part in your big day, so being comfortable with him or her will be a vital piece of the puzzle. All of these things helped us narrow down our choices until we chose what was right for us. Ultimately, we made our decision based off where we would feel most comfortable and where we felt had the most meaning in our lives; our wedding reception will be held at The Links at Northfork in Ramsey. We both grew up playing golf at this course, and I grew up living on it (my parents still live on the 16th hole). I worked and played there in the summers when I was home from college and Kevin played many rounds out there with his friends. We have great memories of the golf course, which will make it really special to go back there and celebrate the beginning of our lives together!
Take some time to look at all of your options and weigh them out. Writing out pros and cons will help you see what is important or not important to you. The Links at Northfork is a perfect fit for us, and even if you don’t have a history at the wedding venues you are considering, make sure they feel comfortable and special. It will be a place that you go back to in your mind for the rest of your life! After venturing through the ideas of many wedding reception sites, Featured Bride Anne M. and her finace Kevin found the perfect venue. We are so excited to hear they have the wedding date and wedding venue set...and Anne seems excited to officially know her wedding anniversary, a date they will celebrate for many, many years to come.
