Top 10 Bridesmaid Dress Trends for Fall 2014

If you’re nearly 6 months away from the big day, you’ve probably (hopefully) started shopping for your bridal party dresses. This can be one of the hardest decisions for brides. You have to pick styles that flatter your friends, match your color palette, and complement the style of your entire wedding. Don’t know where to begin? My recommendation is to start with current trends. I’ve been perusing my favorite bridal magazines, Pinterest (obviously), and the newest collections to uncover the bridesmaid dress trends for fall 2014. Here are the top 10!

Fall’s Top 10 Bridesmaid Dress Trends:

The best fall bridesmaid dress colors:

Colors are at either end of the spectrum this season. We have vibrant shades like Radiant Orchid and coral on one end, and neutrals like white, grey, and black on the other. Which direction will you be going?

1. Gunmetal Grey Metallics are all over the runway this year. Many brides have given their ladies a little leeway, allowing them to wear gold, silver, or champagne dresses of their choosing. Gunmetal is a great choice if you want your ‘maids to match. This metallic looks great with deep purples and blues. 2. White & Ivory “Don’t match the bride!” is the #1 rule when choosing wedding attire, but many brides-to-be are giving the go-ahead. I’m seeing lots of bridal parties wearing white, ivory, or champagne gowns. Even MOB’s and MOG’s are invited to match! I adore the angelic look and effect it has. It really shows guests the connection you’ve made with these women and how much they’ve played a role in your life. 3. Coral This color is great for almost every skin tone—win! Many believe it’s a summer shade, which is true, but it can easily shift into autumn as well. Combine it with eggplant, brown, or gold and you have a gorgeous look for fall.

Fall in love with these trendy silhouettes and necklines.

Fit is everything. There's no sense in choosing a fashion-forward look if it doesn't flatter a woman's figure. Keep this in mind now and your friends may say "thank you" later.

4. Fit-and-Flare (and Fab!) Most brides like to tie the style of their bridal party dresses to their own gown. If you’ve chosen a fit-and-flare silhouette for yourself, consider the same look for your ‘maids! Cohesive and chic. 5. One-Shoulder Wonder If you’re looking for a unique neckline you can still accessorize, this look is ideal. 6. Super Skinny Straps If you like a little support without losing skin, skinny straps are a great alternative. My go-to designer for this trend is Jim Hjelm. You’ll find short and long dresses with delicate necklines that work beautifully for autumn. 7. Loving the Illusion I’m seeing this neckline in both bridal party and wedding gown collections. Very unique and perfect for crisp, autumn evenings! 8. Wraparound Halter Halter tops aren’t flattering on everyone, so this is a great alternative. New and unique is always a good way to go.

Details to die for.

Sometimes it's the littlest things that make the biggest impression. Seems like designers have this idea in mind as I look through their new collections. Belts are the accessory to beat, and backs have started to disappear...

9. Barely-There Backs Cutouts, keyholes, or completely backless—‘maids are starting to bare it all. This may be one of my favorite bridesmaid trends for fall. It’s a great way to show a little skin while still covering up for the chilly weather. 10. Lovely Lace Lace is always chic. Designers seem to agree, and they’re incorporating it into their collections with all-lace or lace-detailed gowns. This fabric fits into any wedding theme, don’t you think? Picture lace in a rustic, black tie, and modern big day. Works every time!
