How to choose the right wedding flowers.
Add beautiful wedding flowers to your wedding with an expert wedding florist! Wedding florist Marah Nicholson, of Marah Cole Designs: Wedding and Event Floral, has some expert wedding floral advice for you as your plan your wedding. Flowers add beauty to wedding decor and Marah wants to help you create the fairytale you've always imagined. Here's what Marah has to say: From simple and elegant to soft and romantic, or from bold and dramatic to clean and contemporary there is something just right for every wedding. With so many flowers in an abundance of different colors, shapes, sizes, fragrances and durability, it's hard to know where to start. The following ideas will help you narrow the options down for something that is just right for your wedding.
First, start looking though magazines or pictures online to get a feel for the kinds of things that you like and don’t like. Keep in mind colors, flowers, and styles of bouquets.
Figure out your theme.
Second, determine the ‘look’ or ‘feel’ that you want to reflect your wedding. Some weddings are more fun and casual while others are more formal and elegant. Gerbera Daises are a more casual flower with all of the bright colors they come in. Calla Lilies are more formal with their sleek lines. Roses and Hydrangeas are perfect for a garden wedding.
Determine your budget.
Third, determine a budget that you are comfortable with. It is typical to spend about 15% of the total wedding budget on flowers and decorations. Generally people want to spend as little as possible while still getting everything they envision. Remember to reuse the ceremony decorations at the reception to help cut costs and maximize impact.
Need vs. want.
Fourth, prioritize what you need vs. what you want. Keep in mind all of the different items that you might need such as, bouquets for the wedding party, corsages, boutonnières, altar decorations, candelabras, aisle décor, remembrance bouquets, entrance decorations, cake decorations, centerpieces, bar decorations, delivery and set-up.
Meet with a professional.
Fifth, meet with a wedding professional to get ideas, pricing and further guidance. In the end you will need to like their style, be comfortable with their pricing and want to work with their personality. Most brides book their florist 8-9 months in advance.
