16 Reasons Why Wedding Season Actually Rocks

Wedding season is upon us, and while some are turning a blind eye to those RSVP cards with looming due dates, we’re picking out new heels and practicing our dance moves! Wedding season has gotten a bad rep, and we beg to differ. Love is in the air, and who doesn’t love a good party, free drinks, and the opportunity to play dress up? So to help you convince the naysayers, we’ve compiled a list of why wedding season is actually the best.

1. G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S

Not many occasions call for that presidential inaugural gown that you bought on clearance—just in case. Weddings provide you the perfect excuse to doll up and shop for fancy new accessories and dresses! (Which, conveniently, also makes this an excellent opportunity to snap a new Facebook profile photo!)

2. Open bar!

Where else can you drink copious amounts of signature cocktails and house wine and its 100% socially acceptable? After you’ve phased out of college you are left to either sipping alone in your basement, taking shots at your company Christmas party, or hanging out with the cute bartender at your college roommate’s reception. You choose the wedding? Wise choice. Bottoms up!

3. Free food

I love weddings. I love them for the beautiful dresses, the (sometimes) charming toasts, and the look on the groom’s face when he first sees his bride coming down the aisle. I love them for what they symbolize—you know, love. But mostly, I love them for the free food. Let me tell you: I can pack it away at a wedding. I will literally starve myself all day just to be able to devour one more piece of cake before hitting the dance floor. Who can resist heavenly hors d’oeuvres and a table of swoon worthy desserts? Not this girl!

4. Grab a date

Looking for a way to nonchalantly ask out the cute guy at your office? This wedding is the perfect excuse! You don’t want to go alone. Naturally, he’s too nice to let you. It’s a date! (Then you can impress him with your killer dance moves. Bonus!) Weddings also provide a fantastic buffer if you’re looking to introduce your new beau to your entire extended family, providing you with an abundance of foolproof scapegoats and distractions for when your uncle gets a little too rowdy talking about the 2016 presidential election. (Sorry Uncle Chuck, but this song is totally our jam!)

5. Meet a date

Dapper groomsmen in suits and single gents at the open bar…Sounds like a party to me! Meeting guys outside of work and the online date-asphere is tough. Set your mother’s mind at ease by bringing home a nice boy from Sarah’s wedding, rather than “Mikey T.” from Tinder—who strangely doesn’t look anything like his profile picture in real life.

6. Research what you like…and don’t like

Perhaps your wedding planning is in full swing, or maybe you’re still searching for Mr. Right. Regardless, you’ll be more than ready to plan your own matrimony after meticulously studying all of these other celebrations. Loved the candy bar but hated the color scheme? Lock that away in your wedding planning arsenal! You’ll have everything decided and set by the time he even gets down on one knee.

7. Hang out with friends

Taylor Swift isn’t the only one that gets to have all of the girl squad fun! Weddings are the best places to catch up with old friends and acquaintances that you wouldn’t have otherwise gotten the chance to see. It’s like a mini-reunion! And since you’re all dressed up and looking fantastic, it provides the perfect setting to run into all of your exes.

8. Because, like, you’re Beyoncé

Dial your inner-celebrity up to an 11! Weddings have gotten more and more extravagant, and with that so have the parties. Gala-like events and red-carpet affairs are becoming increasingly common, and we think that calls for the perfect occasion for you to pull out that celebrity-worthy gown that’s been sitting in the back of your closet eagerly anticipating the perfect event!

9. Dancing the night away

Because slaying the dance floor at your cousin’s reception is your sole duty at this wedding, and a task so noble and glorious shouldn’t be taken lightly. You’ve hit the stage of life where clubbing it at the bar is generally frowned upon (boo!), so where else are you going to bust a move? Trust us, you were born to do this.

10. Cake!

Donuts! Ice cream! Macaroons! Entire dessert tables. Need I say more?

11. Something to do

So long to trying to decide whether you’ll spend your Saturday night giving your dog a bath or catching up on Scandal (okay, fine…both!) You’ve got plans!

12. A reason to travel

Destination wedding? Count us in! Many brides are opting to say their vows overseas, and we aren’t complaining. While you wouldn’t usually splurge on a weeklong stay at an all-inclusive resort in the Bahamas, you just can’t miss your high school bestie’s wedding, can you?

13. Who doesn’t love a good cry?

While many attendees are just concerned about the after party, we think that the ceremony is where the real fun is. Witnessing the beautiful lives that your friends have created and their decision to do life together forever is a definite tearjerker. Bring on the tissues!

14. Vows

Along the same line of thought, the vows are always my favorite part of the wedding. Even if you don’t know the couple well (hello, 3rd cousin twice removed) the vows are always an intimate part of the celebration that are beautiful to witness.

15. Favors

Really, weddings are just the gift that keeps on giving. Personalized chocolates? Lavender hand lotion? A post-celebration hangover kit? I’ll take three of each, thanks!

16. LOVE EXSISTS

Guys! We’re not all doomed! Love exists and weddings are the proof that we needed. Still looking for the right guy? He’s coming! And you’ll wear that killer white dress some day. Already married? They can serve to remind you of why you fell in love in the first place and the vows that you said to showcase your commitment. I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking about it!
