How It Happened: The Marriage Proposal

First off, let me tell you a little about myself and my fiancé.  My name is Mary, I’m 21 and working towards my AAS in Accounting, which I will finish next spring.  My fiance’s name is Tim, he is 22, and is the manager of the Electrical Department at a Menards store and has been for the past 2 years. We started dating in high school, when I was a sophomore and Tim was a junior, and have been together ever since.

Alright, now here’s the good stuff (aka: the marriage proposal!)

On April 3, 2010 Tim and I went on a picnic.  I thought it was just an ordinary old picnic, as we go on them often, but soon found out it was anything but ordinary! We picked up takeout from our favorite Chinese place and headed to the park (which was where we had our first date).  We sat on the bench and ate (Tim scarfed his down!) and just had regular conversation.  After I finished, I asked Tim if he would push me on the swings.  He said yes, and began pushing me.  He pushed me for a few minutes, then stopped me abruptly. He told me he loved me and I said I loved him too and gave him a look kind of like “why are you stopping me?” then all of a sudden he got down on one knee! I instantly started crying (of course!), while he said some very sweet things to me. He opened the ring box and I yelled “IT'S HUGE!!!” and started jumping up and down. About a minute later I screamed “YES!”

Set the Wedding Date.

Since then we have picked our wedding date, which is October 1, 2011.  This date is very special to us, as we started dating October 1, 2004.  We knew we wanted a fall wedding, and when we saw that October 1 was a Saturday next year, we knew that was our wedding date. We have made some other plans, but you’ll have to keep reading my future blog posts for more! Keep reading My Wedding Chat for more real bride stories and expert wedding planning advice.
