Trying to stay organized and pull all of your ideas together? Planning a wedding can be stressful and a lot to remember. Something pops into your head one day but you can't remember it the next! Sometimes I need to find clever ways of organizing so I'm able keep everything straight. There's always Pinterest, but a hands-on project really gets my creative juices flowing. A fun way to keep your wedding thoughts and ideas together visually is by creating an inspiration board.
How to Make a Wedding Inspiration Board:
An inspiration board can contain anything from a wedding dress you saw in a magazine to a colorful bird you saw in the park. Compile these images and many more into a collage that can inspire the rest of your wedding plans. What do you need to start this easy DIY project? I recommend a poster board, scissors, tape, and Post-Its for extra notes. An empty bulletin board with lots of push pins will also do the trick! You can even design your inspiration board on the computer with programs such as Microsoft Word, Publisher and Paint, or Adobe programs including Photoshop and Illustrator. Choose your medium and get started! The fun part is finding the photos.
Consider your wedding colors.
I decided to create my wedding planning collages in Photoshop. The board above shows off my favorite wedding color--purple. I pulled images from my Minnesota lifestyle, adding a few family photos to remind me what the day is all about. I found a gorgeous Jim Hjelm Bridesmaid Dress to consider while browsing Wedding Shoppe, Inc.
As you can see, it was easy for me to gather pieces for a purple big day – I'm a major fan of Prince and the Vikings!
Think about your theme.
The second inspiration board I have created is a little more extensive. I love autumn days, so I searched for rustic images that sparked my creativity. There are many photos on here, including a small collage of DIY centerpiece ideas: mirrors, a candle, and a finish of fake leaves sprinkled around for a “water reflection effect." See how a few small finds can quickly come together and help you check off one major planning task?
What will you be inspired by?
Now that you know how to make an inspiration board, it's time to start digging! Remember, there are no limits or guidelines to this DIY idea – a duck’s reflection in a mirror, an inscription on a tree, or even something as simple as a rose bud. Compile anything you want, as long as it gets you closer to your dream big day. Don’t need some of the images anymore? Feel free to take anything off if it's not tying into your current wedding plans. The sky is the limit – start gathering your stuff now and share your ideas in a comment below!
