A Christmas Marriage Proposal.

How we got engaged:

Sean and I are currently apart for a year. He is working in Bismarck, North Dakota and I am working in Minneapolis.  It’s only for a year but, the old saying is definitely true… distance makes the heart grow fonder!!  So needless to say, I was super excited for Christmas as Sean and I would be together in Minneapolis. On Christmas Eve, the morning after the worst work travel experience of my life (a story for another day), Sean and I woke up late to find a cold and snowy morning.  With nothing to do until later that afternoon, we debated on whether to go work out or go for a nice walk. Feeling a bit lazy, the walk idea won. We headed down from my downtown apartment towards the Mississippi River.  Between the snow and holiday, Hennepin Avenue was uncommonly peaceful and beautiful.

The wedding proposal:

We took a few minutes to take in the view of the river from the Hennepin Bridge.  Sean held me in his arms as we told each other how much we missed each other and how nice to be together for the holidays (the usual mushy stuff).  As we turned around to head back home,  Sean dropped to one knee and pulled back the top of his mitten to reveal a diamond ring on his pinky.  I instantly started crying as he asked me to marry him.  I managed to mutter a “Yes” through my tears.  It was honestly one of the happiest moments of my life. We stood on the bridge just holding each other and taking it all in.   Then I  grabbed his hand and started power walking back towards the apartment as I rambled  through tears about who I was going to call first. Let the wedding planning begin!!!
