NEW Featured Bride, Sarah B: A 'Walking' Proposal Story

Featured Bride, Sarah B. Wedding Location: North Carolina | Wedding Date: Spring of 2014 We're so excited to introduce you to our latest featured bride, Sarah B! As a former Wedding Shoppe Inc. gal (and dear friend to many of us), we're absolutely THRILLED that Sarah has decided to share her wedding journey with us on My Wedding Chat.  Keep reading, to hear all about her cute proposal story and her life as a new resident of Arizona:

How It All Began...

Matthew and I have been together for a little over 2 years. We met on Valentine's Day in 2009 (which also happens to be his birthday!); and ever since we met, we’ve been completely inseparable. A few months into things, he tagged along, on my family's yearly vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. That was when I knew my family really loved him. They had never let anyone come with before, so it was a pretty big deal. A few weeks after that, we decided to move in together. A lot of people thought we were moving way too fast, but we knew that things would work out.  Neither of us could imagine being without each other.

Proposal Stories

Two Years Later...

So, fast-forward to 2 years later: We decided to make a big change in our lives. We were going to pack up our life and move to Arizona, as Matt had chosen to go back to school, at Arizona State University, for Mechanical Engineering. Now that I had graduated, it was his chance to go to the school he wanted to attend.  His family lives here, in Arizona, as well. So, we packed up our belongings and left our jobs (which was very difficult, as I had become extremely close with everyone I worked with!). Completely leaving all of our family and friends was especially tough on me, but I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. And for a girl who hates snow, Arizona seemed pretty appealing!

Another Family Vacay.

Right before we made the move, we went on our yearly vacation with our family to OBX. I secretly hoped that Matt would propose while we were on our trip, but I wasn’t going to get my hopes up too high. Every night after dinner, Matt convinced me to take a walk down the beach with him, to “work off” our huge dinner. The first of couple nights, I thought something was up, but then I just told myself that I was getting my hopes up.

The Most Perfect Moment.

The 4th of July came around, and we had a party at my Aunt’s beach house, right on the ocean. There are about 50 of us that vacation there over the summer, so there were a ton of people from my dad’s side of the family there.  Sure enough, we ate our huge dinner, and I asked Matt if we could go on our nightly walk, because I was so stuffed! Little did I know, I had walked right into his plan! We started walking down the beach, holding hands, and he told me that he loves me. I’m oblivious to everything, casually say "I love you" back, and just kept trekking along, looking at the ocean. Then, the next thing I know, he grabbed my hand, twirled me around, got down on one knee, and said, “No Sarah, I really love you...” Tears instantly started rolling down my face, and as he was talking, I couldn't stop saying “You're joking!” Finally, he got through his speech (neither of us can remember exactly what he said), and he pulled out a ring. THE ring! I pulled him up from the sand, and threw my arms around him. At this very moment, there just happened to be two ladies walking down by the water, who stopped to cheer for us. It was the most perfect moment. After I said “YES!,” and he slipped the ring on my finger, we walked back up to the house, to share the excitement with my entire family. A little while later, we went down to the beach, to watch the fireworks from the pier. It was the most amazing 4th of July ever, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Settling In.

Matthew and I are now settled in Arizona. He has started school, we both have new jobs, and we love enjoying time at home together, with our adorable Jack Russell terrier.  We have decided to spend a little time just being engaged, and most likely, we won’t have the wedding until Spring of 2014.

There are two things that we are certain of, though:

1: We are getting married on the beach, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There is so much meaning there for us, and it is such a special place, that we can’t imagine having the wedding anywhere else! And 2: I will be back to Minnesota in May, and will be making an appointment to get my bridal gown at Wedding Shoppe, Inc! I can’t wait to see all of you, again!

Thank you, Sarah, for keeping us in the loop on your plans for your big day - no matter how far away you are! We miss you, and can't wait to hear about more of your wedding details as they unfold. See you SOON!
