Fit and Flare Wedding Dresses: Our Favorite Styles

What is it about this silhouette that makes me melt every time? It’s fabulous—I’m aware of this—but what’s the specific element that triggers instant adoration? Maybe it’s the way fit and flare wedding dresses hug every amazing curve. Perhaps it’s the variety of fabrics or necklines that make each look unique. Maybe it’s the inevitable glamour each one evokes. Whatever “it” is, the fit ‘n’ flare is my favorite silhouette. I’m going to show off my top looks and give you a few shopping tips in the meantime. C’mon, ladies—it’s time to fall in love all over again.

Fit and Flare Wedding Dresses: Is this silhouette right for you?

Love your curves? If you have an hourglass or pear shape, a fit and flare gown is an ideal choice. The style will hug your curves and highlight your small waist. Consider yourself a pear? Look for dresses with straps to match your proportions. I don’t recommend this design for petite women, or ladies with an apple or ruler body type. If you’re looking for a universally flattering silhouette, consider an A-line bridal gown.

Must-have tip: Make sure you can sit down in your dress! Movement is necessary on your big day, ladies.

Mermaid, Trumpet and Fit and Flare: What’s the difference?

Fit and Flare: This silhouette is the most requested at the Shoppe. This style closely hugs the bodice and gradually flares out. Out of all three designs, this one gives you the most room in the legs, allowing you to move comfortably on your big day.

Trumpet: This shape fits the body further down, and begins to flare out gradually at the mid-thigh.

Mermaid: Usually very dramatic, mermaid gowns are form-fitting until at the knee or below. They’re not the easiest to move in, but the end result is a bombshell shape.

Jaw-dropping gowns from my favorite designers.

If you’re beginning to fall for the fit and flare, my favorite designers are Allure Bridals, Maggie Sottero, Mori Lee, and Hayley Paige. The variety seems to be endless, and every look is glamorous in its own way.

My favorite silhouette is also the fit and flare! It’s stunning. However I see you don’t recommend it for petite ladies. I see this on a lot of sites and I don’t quite understand where this idea that petite ladies cannot wear fit and flare or trumpet dresses comes from.
I personally know many petite ladies who have worn, and have looked stunning in either a fit and flare or a trumpet gown on their wedding day or at their school ball. The trick is getting the proportions right which often means a lot more alterations; but it can be done and the result is stunning. I personally have my heart set on a stunning off the shoulder fit and flare wedding gown, I’ve tried a couple of dresses and I can honestly say I don’t look half bad.
Stunning selection of dresses by the way! 🙂

I am a petite lady going for a fit and flare gown. I’m about 5′ but I also have an hourglass figure. I’m adding a sash which makes my waist even smaller and a good pair of heels to add height. This is the one style that made me look slimmer and didn’t swallow me whole.
